Father Matthew Wyse

Father Wyse was born in Birkenhead, England on April 18, 1894. In preparation for his ordination to the priesthood on May 13, 1923 for the Shrewsbury Diocese, Father Wyse studied at the English College, Lisbon, Portugal and St. Mary’s, Oscott College, Birmingham, England. After World War II he came to the United States and worked in the Trenton (NJ) Diocese. In March of 1952 he came to the Diocese of Wichita and was chaplain of St. Mary’s Hospital in Winfield. He died on December 27, 1956 at the age of 62. Bishop Carroll celebrated Fr. Wyse’s Solemn Pontifical Mass of Requiem and he was buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Winfield.
